Enzyme Magic

Did you know our skin starts to slow down its 28 day cycle after we turn 25? As we get older regular exfoliation on a monthly basis is a keystone for looking our best. There is such a thing as over-peeling and we don’t want to damage our skin barrier or cause redness or unintentional peeling. Enter enzymes!

My skin care philosophy has always been akin to changing the oil in your car regularly rather than getting a whole new engine every few years. Lighter, more consistent exfoliation keeps the skin happy. Deep peels have their place but you can prolong the inevitable gently by using enzymes. Enzymes break down proteins, exfoliating without disrupting the pH balance of the skin. They are great for all skin types but especially for dry, sensitive and mature.

We have a couple of favorite enzyme masks here, Glo Skin Beauty’s Gentle Enzyme Mask helps calm inflammation, making it perfect for acne prone and sensitive skin. It contains nopal cactus—which is super high in antioxidants and phytochemicals—to battle free radicals and environmental pollutants, which can attack cells and cause premature signs of aging, wrinkles, dark spots, and even cancer.

PCA Revitalizing Mask

This papaya based enzyme mask lightens blemishes and is useful for acne, pimples and it helps heal skin infections.

Papaya helps minimize pores and hydrate skin. It helps make your skin smoother, brighter and healthier by removing dead cells. It is ideal for oily, regular, and combination skin and combats wrinkles and the signs of aging.

Remember, do not perform any type of exfoliation on sunburned or irritated skin or skin that has been waxed within 24 hours and always wear your sunscreen!
