Daria's Round Brush Round Up

Ask the expert! We wrangled a minute with Urbaca’s owner, Goldwell educator and stylist Daria to ask her all about round brushes.

Q: When should someone use a round brush on their hair over other hairbrush options?

A: People should use a round brush when they want a smooth look, to create volume and for curl definition.

Q. Walk us through how to utilize a round brush. Any styling tips or techniques?

A: Start by blow drying hair with your hands until it’s almost dry. You’ll need clips to hold up the top portion of your hair. Start blow drying and brushing at at the nape of your neck, pulling the hair out away from the head with the brush as you blow dry, also making sure the nozzle is going down the cuticle of the hair— from the base to the ends of the hair. Take sections moving up toward crown of head, make sure hair is over 100% dry. Any moisture will compromise the smoothness of the blowdry.

Q: What types of styles can you achieve with a round brush?

A: Round brushes are best for creating defined volume and wave.

Q: What factors need to be taken into account in order for someone to choose the best round brush for their hair?

A: The diameter of brush head, the longer the hair, the larger the diameter of the head. Also what the brush is made of, boar vs synthetic bristles. Boar is better for fuzzy types of hair, synthetic is best for trying to create more definition in the hair.

Q: Round brushes come in different sizes with different diameters. When would someone want to use a smaller size, and how small should they use?

A: For shorter hair a brush head as small as 1/2”, use up to 2” head for longer hair.

Q: What is a ceramic-coated round brush good for?

A: The idea of ceramic-coated is to protect the hair from heat as it distributes the heat more evenly, acting faster and more efficiently with less temperature. Ceramic-coated round brushes are appropriate for all hair types.
